30 weeks pregnant & taking Spatone to UP my Iron levels

At 30 weeks pregnant, being a mum to a toddler with lots of energy to spare has finally begun to take it’s toll on me and my body.. that alongside the crazy heatwave we are currently having in the UK. I had a phone call from the midwife to say that my iron levels are quite low at 102 and I need to get to 105 by 34 weeks, she prescribed me a packet of iron tablets to take twice daily and suggested that I continue to take the Spatone Apple that I recently mentioned I was taking.

I did begin to wonder if my iron levels were low when I found myself going dizzy at times and needing to grab something sugary to eat in order to function but honestly, I thought it was a just a combination of the heat and the fact that I may have been slightly dehydrated. It turns out I need a little bit of a pick me up and the spatone liquid iron sachets have done just that.

Not just for pregnant women, these are suitable for anybody above the age of 2 and actually don’t taste bad at all. I’ve set an alarm on my phone which goes off every morning reminding me to take it and even just after a couple of weeks on the sachets, I am already feeling the benefits. I wish I had started taking these sooner, I feel like these would have done me such a favour in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Where does it come from?

Spatone is a naturally occurring iron rich water that is straight from the source in Snowdonia, Wales. I haven’t had any side effects from them like I would usually get with a basic iron tablet which is so nice as it all feels so natural. It also has additional Vitamin C in which is great as it can help increase iron absorption. With that little bit more energy, I feel like I can finally get the house in order and have enough energy to continue chasing my toddler around.

They recommend 2 sachets daily for pregnant women so I have my first one at around 10am which is when I usually give my toddler a fruity snack and another in the afternoon if I feel I need a little pick me up (usually around 3pm). From what I remember when I first had Alyssia, the newborn days are just as hard as running around after a toddler whilst heavily pregnant.. so I am sure I will be continuing to take these as a new mum of two.

Where can I buy them?

I had a few messages the other day on Instagram mostly from pregnant mamas, asking where you can buy the Spatone sachets for yourself. You can buy a pack of 28 sachets in Boots for £12.49 and they are currently on a 3 for 2 offer which is fab and means that you can stock up for a few months at a time. I would definetely recommenced starting to take these in early pregnancy too as I wish I had discovered these sooner. But as I said they’re not just for pregnant women, they’re suitable for anybody who feel as though they need that little extra boost.

You can also buy them in Holland & Barrett, Tesco, Amazon, Sainsburys etc but the best deal I have found is in Boots where they have the 3 for 2 offer available.
