If you’re well on your way to designing your dream home, you can’t forget about your bedroom. However, many people forget about their bedroom, as they don’t want to disrupt the space with paint boxes or paint. This means their bedroom regular gets left behind.

This might not sound too bad but ignoring your bedroom and failing to make it cosy can impact the rest of the home. Your bedroom should be a place where you rest and feel invigorated for the next day. So here are ten extra cosy ways to improve your bedroom.

Upgrade Your Sheets

Have you ever wanted the luxury of hotel linens but never known how to get them? All of this has changed, and you can purchase high-quality bedsheets to take your bedroom into another realm of luxury. Many hotels and companies will offer hotel-quality linens that are sure to be an upgrade on the bed sheets you’ve used for your entire adult life so far. There’s also no need to stop there. You can also find pillows, mattresses, and mattress covers if you want to completely revamp your sleeping experience.

Change the Lighting

Overhead lights are very much a last-century sort of thing. While they can fill a room with light, they also make the room feel too closed-off. Instead, it’s time to ditch the big light and instead go for lamps and candles dotted around the room. This set up is essential for the bedroom where you want to cultivate a cosy atmosphere, and as lamp light is softer than overhead lights, you will find it easier to drift off to sleep when you’re ready.

Darkness Is Your Friend

At the same time, though, you also want to embrace the darkness as much as possible. Light sleepers in particular will benefit from black-out blinds or curtains, as this will prevent outside light from disturbing them during their sleep. That said, black-out blinds can hinder heavy sleepers and make it difficult to wake up the next day. If you don’t want to risk oversleeping, consider smart alarm clocks and lights that will mimic the sunrise in your home to ease you gently out of your slumber.

Embrace Color

Comfortable and relaxing colours are the cornerstone of any cosy bedroom, so you need to think about what you want from your experience. Pastels are usually the best way to go, as they are neither too drab nor too bold, and this makes them perfectly neutral for the bedroom. However, you can also consider which way your bedroom faces and how much natural light it receives. If it is a south-facing bedroom, you can use this orientation to maximize the benefits of whichever colour you select.

Use Natural Materials

Being connected to nature is something that is deeply ingrained within us, even if we don’t always realize it. You can enhance your bedroom experience and improve the cosy-factor by bringing in natural materials like wood and wool over synthetic alternatives. This can make your bedroom feel more like home and even pays tribute to bedrooms of the past. Even if you’re not the outdoorsy type4, you’ll still find plenty to love about it.

Hang Some Art

If your walls are feeling a little too bare, then why not hang some calming art that can help you drift off to sleep each night. This doesn’t mean the art itself is boring, but rather it promotes serenity. Ocean and beach scenes are very popular for this, but you can go for anything that puts you at ease. Just try to avoid artwork that is a little too much, as anything too dynamic will make you struggle to switch off, at least at first while you’re still getting used to it.

Bring In (Low Maintenance) Plants

By now, you probably have plenty of experience with houseplants. They are a fantastic way to improve your home, boost air quality, and just make your house a more pleasant place to be. You can bring them into your bedroom to make the atmosphere cosier and more comfortable. But, if you’ve not had much success with houseplants in the past, consider bringing in low-maintenance options like cacti or a dracaena, as these won’t mind too much if you forget to water them.

Declutter Your Wardrobe

Sometimes, you can’t help but buy more clothes even though you know you don’t need them. Over time, this makes your wardrobe more and more cluttered, and this is enough to stress anybody out. Such stress can make it imp[ossible to relax in your bedroom, so think about decluttering your wardrobe so you can sleep a little easier. You’ll need to show ruthlessness, and you will have to say goodbye to some of your favourite pieces. But, this is all for the greater good, and it will free up your wardrobe, bedroom and mind.

Add Seasonal Decor

Seasonal decor is a simple but effective way to keep your bedroom feeling cosy all year round. Whether Easter or Christmas, you can add little ornaments or hang wreaths that remind you of the good cheer. If you have kids with an artistic streak, don’t be afraid to fill your shelves with things they’ve made art school, as this is much better than generic items you got from the shops.

Get Rid Of Technology

We all know how screens keep you up at night, so you should try to make your bedroom as much of a tech-free zone as possible. This means ditching the TV in the bedroom, but also leaving your phone or tablet downstairs. If you use your phone as an alarm, switch to a proper alarm clock. If you use your tablet for reading, try not to read in bed, or at least use the blue-light filter to reduce the exposure that can make it hard to get to sleep.

Cosy Comforts

Of course, you want to make your entire house a cocoon of cosiness and comfort, but you’ll never achieve that if you don’t first focus on the bedroom. As this is where you will spend about one-third of your life, it’s crucial to think about how you can make the space work for you so you can reap the benefits, feel invigorated, and kick exhaustion out of the door.
